Hello Friends! Busan, Korea is one of our favourite cities. If you had one week to spend in Korea I would point you to Busan. Hiking, temples, markets.. it’s a city bursting with colour. No visit would be complete without seeing the Busan Tower. It offers the best view of any observation site I’ve ever been to. On top of a hill, Busan Tower stands at 182 meters tall. The views of Busan harbour are fantastic. The full breadth of Busan is below you, but you’re not so high you can’t see the details and this makes for a very fun view.

Busan Tower is surrounded by a park, can walk up from the street and picnic on the grounds. The children had great fun trying to find where we were staying and other sites we had visited in Busan.

Open from 10am to 11:30pm, Busan Tower offers a dazzling view at night. It is near to Gukje Market, sometimes called Nampodong International Market, where you can buy just about anything and enjoy an abundance of street food. Just don’t make the mistake I did on my first visit to Busan Tower where I bought far too much at Gukje Market and then had to carry it all the way up the hill! I would visit Busan Tower first and then make your way down to the market for a great day of browsing.

Hello friends! Are you looking for an amazing Korean experience that is weird and wonderful and decidedly off the beaten track? Haslla Art World is gorgeous, dramatic and a whole lot of fun. A multi layered sculpture park with breathtaking views out to the East sea, Haslla Art World is filled with quirky sculptures and interactive installations. There are over 24 hectares packed with sculptures and installations. There’s an indoor museum with fantastic Korean artists and the museum is also a hotel! Each room is colourful and unique.
We spent an exciting afternoon exploring Haslla Art World, a day of fun discoveries. The children loved it!

Haslla Art World is 13 kilometers from the east coast city of Gangneung. We did not stay at the hotel but took a taxi from Gangneung, and then a bus back. The bus leaves from the road below the hill Haslla Art World is situated on. The museum can also call you a taxi if you wish.

This is a top ten Korean experience! Go on a clear day, ours was often misty and while we could still see the ocean a blue sky would have been even more amazing. Bring a picnic and water as there are no shops nearby and the restaurant is only open in the evening. You can spend many hours here and still feel you must have missed something!

Hello Friends! Have you ever thought of taking your children on a culturally enriching holiday to Korea? I have found that Korea is not on the radar of many Australian families when they think about an overseas adventure. I would like to change that! Korea is a wonderful family friendly destination. The Korean people are always welcoming to children and the country is incredibly beautiful. Transport options are extensive across Korea and inexpensive, as are the taxis. I had the privilege of travelling with my two children throughout much of Korea, from Mokpo to Sokcho and so many wonderful places in between. We are hoping to go back for a fourth visit when our world opens up again!
Here are some of the many exciting things Korea offers families.
Breathtaking views everywhere!

Mokpo
Fantastic eating experiences!

Jagalchi Market, Busan
Beautiful beaches!

Have you ridden the KTX? If you have you know that the most exciting thing (other than the stunning scenery) is the snack cart. Everything tastes better at 305km/217mph! Enjoy your banana milk and the beautiful endless mountains. Did you know that 70% of South Korea is mountains? Your train will go through many tunnels. Awesome feats of engineering and planning must have gone into this! Young children will be very entertained by the snack cart anticipation, the thrilling tunnels and the beautiful landscape flashing past. The KTX takes approximately 3 hours to get from Seoul to Busan (minus zombies). Any train fans will enjoy this, from the top of Korea to the bottom!

Consider booking during busy times of day or for holiday weekends. Otherwise it’s enough to show up the day before and buy your ticket if you need to arrive at a definite time.
Thinking back at what I’ve bought from the KTX snack cart, there are so many things. Sandwiches, iced americano, dried squid, cheese crackers, hodu-gwaja (walnut cookies), beer, banana milk (a MUST for riding the KTX), miscellaneous baked goods, an entire dosirak (bento box lunch tray), hard boiled eggs.. it’s a BIG snack cart! And it varies from trip to trip and time of day. But it’s always a lot of fun.
